Blues’ Craig Berube seems satisfied being in Game 7

Craig Berube does not appear to be exhibiting the best mentality entering Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Berube’s St. Louis Blues lost at home to the Boston Bruins 5-1 in Game 6 on Sunday night to send things to a deciding Game 7. After the game, Berube said he was confident in his team’s ability to play on the road, but he spoke like someone happy to be there.

“Listen, if you told me four months ago we were gonna be in the finals, Game 7, I think I’d take it,” Berube said.

As of January 3, the Blues were the worst team in the NHL, so to be in the Stanley Cup Final is an accomplishment. But it’s not one they should be satisfied or happy with at this point. They should feel like the job isn’t done yet. Berube saying he’ll “take it” does not appear to show a killer instinct.

Of course, whatever Berube’s been telling his team has worked to this point, so maybe I’m the idiot.

We’ll find out during Game 7 on Wednesday.
