NHL reporter Jessi Pierce and her three children tragically died in a house fire on Saturday morning, the league announced on Sunday.
Firefighters found Pierce, her three young children, and their dog all dead in their home in White Bear Lake, Minn. She was 37.
According to ESPN, Pierce’s neighbors called 911 after seeing flames coming out of the Pierce family home. The White Bear Lake Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire.
“The Minnesota Wild organization is heartbroken by the tragic loss of Jessi Pierce and her children. Jessi was a kind, compassionate person that cared deeply about her family and those around her. She served as an ambassador for the game of hockey during her time covering the Wild and the NHL.
“Jessi and her children will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to their family, friends, and all who knew and loved them.”

Pierce covered the Minnesota Wild for a full decade, working for both NHL.com and the team. She was considered a fixture at Wild games, often seen with a blanket draped over her to keep her warm, her presence to fellow media members just as warm.
An aspiring sportswriter since the age of 18, Pierce covered multiple sports during her four years at Iowa State. She was a popular figure in the Minnesota sports scene, covering hockey for multiple outlets over the years, such as USA Hockey, the Minnesota Hockey Journal, and The Athletic.
