Panthers players took less than a day to damage the Stanley Cup

Florida Panthers players did not even need a full day with the Stanley Cup to cause some notable damage.

The Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 on Tuesday night to win their second consecutive title, but the Stanley Cup had seemingly suffered some damage before the team even left Amerant Bank Arena. Photos from the celebration showed an apparent crack in the bowl of the trophy.

That was not the only issue. During celebrations on Wednesday, the base of the trophy was clearly dented as well.

The Hockey Hall of Fame did admit there had been some damage to the Cup, but said via a spokesperson that the appropriate steps are being taken to have it repaired in time for Sunday’s victory parade.

It is entirely possible, if not likely, that this isn’t the last dent or nick the Cup gets this summer. When you see how hard the Panthers were celebrating their victory, it is easy to see how this might have happened.
