Bill Simmons rips ESPN for treating Grantland writers ‘callously’
ESPN announced on Friday that the plug is being pulled on Grantland, and it didn’t take long for Bill Simmons to share his opinion on the decision.
I loved everyone I worked with at G and loved what we built. Watching good/kind/talented people get treated so callously = simply appalling.

One Grantland freelance writer said he found out via Twitter that he is out of a job.
ESPN claims it is going to honor the contracts of the Grantland staff and have the writers produce content across other platforms. Still, it is fairly obvious that the decision to suspend the popular publication is an effort to completely cut ties with Simmons.
As soon as he launched his new podcast, Simmons took aim at ESPN and was very critical over the way the network handled Grantland. You can read some of the issues he laid out here.
Simmons had built a Grantland staff filled with talented writers, and many of them are extremely popular. A handful already left ESPN to write for him. Others could wind up doing the same.
