Rousimar Palhares stripped of title; MMA fighters call for lifetime ban

Former UFC fighter Rousimar Palhares was stripped of his World Series of Fighting welterweight title over the weekend after he held a kimura submission too long while defeating his opponent.

The video below shows Palhares making a nice move while on the ground to put Jake Shields in a kimura, but he held onto the submission well after the referee intervened and called the fight.

This is nothing new for Palhares. In 2013, he was released from the UFC after he held a heel hook on Mike Pierce for too long. Other fighters have accused him of similar antics, and Shields claimed Palhares intentionally poked him in the eye during Saturday’s fight.

The MMA world is tired of Palhares fighting dirty, and some fighters want him banned for life.

At this point of his career @ToquinhoMMA should be banned from MMA for life. Cheater at every opportunity. Major officiating error. #WSOF

Not sure how any commission is licensing him at this point, let alone organizations promoting him. https://t.co/z5oeQpFO17

Just watched shields vs Paul Harris finish last night. Paul Harris again, tries to maim his opponent unnecessarily Lifetime ban IMO

Man, I just keep thinking about what might of happened at the Sheilds fight if the Diaz bros hadn't been kicked out of the arena already.

However looked like 3-4 seconds after shields started tapping. https://t.co/ndSEB8OJWS

Fighting is dangerous enough as is. There’s a reason officials step in to stop the action before someone gets serious injured. Palhares is lucky he didn’t break Shields’ arm.
