Lance Harbor’s Scholarship to Florida State in Jeopardy After Knee Injury

West Canaan quarterback Lance Harbor suffered a major knee injury on Friday night against Greenville that could put his career and the team’s future in jeopardy. The injury occurred in the fourth quarter of West Canaan’s comeback win over Greenville on a hit by the defense after offensive lineman Billy Bob missed his block.

Billy Bob, who has been an All State selection for two years, collapsed to the ground shortly after the play began, explaining after the game that he momentarily blacked out. He had been experiencing migraine-like headaches throughout the week but decided to try and suit up for the game, and the decision proved to be costly for West Canaan.

Harbor was carted off the field immediately and taken to the hospital where doctors performed surgery on his knee. The early reports say the senior quarterback tore all of the ligaments in his knee and that he’ll need at least a year and a half to recover. Lance was supposed to enroll at Florida State in the spring to try and compete for the Seminoles quarterback job in the fall, but those plans may be on hold after his catastrophic knee injury. A source close to the Florida State program informed LBS that they typically rescind scholarship offers made to recruits who get hurt.

Additionally, doctors said they were stunned by the amounts of scar tissue they discovered in Harbor’s knee during the surgery. They said it was surprising Harbor hadn’t complained of previous knee problems based on the scar tissue. LBS has exclusively learned however that Harbor had been playing with knee injuries.

A current West Canaan player who wishes to remain anonymous because he does not want his words to affect his playing time, said Harbor has been ordered by Coach Bud Kilmer to take cortisone injections in his knee prior to games. Doctors said the condition of his knee was likely so poor that Harbor should not have been playing.

After Harbor exited the game because of his knee injury, backup Jonathan Moxon entered the game and led West Canaan on a two-play touchdown drive to win the game. The senior backup has played sparingly during his career with the Coyotes and after the comeback win, he’s likely to remain the team’s starter the rest of the season.
