Aly Raisman explains why dad wears same red shirt to her events

Aly Raisman parents

Aly Raisman’s parents have become nearly just as big of stars as she has throughout the Olympics.

Raisman’s parents, Lynn and Rick, have gone viral for the second straight Olympiad because of their emotions and reactions while watching Aly perform in gymnastics. The two buckle up for the ride whenever Aly is in the middle of a routine, bobbing and weaving with each of her moves (video here).

But one thing many have noticed is that Rick has been wearing the exact same red polo supporting USA Gymnastics that he did for the 2012 Summer Games in London, where Aly won gold in the team and floor exercises, as well as bronze on the balance beam. There’s actually a good reason for that.

“I make my dad wear that same shirt he wore in London because it’s good luck,” Raisman told Yahoo’s Dan Wetzel. “So I saw a couple people commenting he is wearing the same [shirt]. He wears that shirt but that is because of me.”

Well that explains it. Now we no longer have to worry whether Rick Raisman’s closet is like Superman’s with nothing but red Olympic polo shirts; he’s just wearing the same one as a good luck superstition. Hey, as long as it continues to work, he should keep doing it!
