Olympic skier Berkin Usta died on Thursday during a fire at a ski resort in Turkey.
The fire occurred at the Kervansaray Hotel in Bursa. As of the time this story was published, two people had died and 12 were injured as a result of the fire. The 25-year-old Usta and his 57-year-old father Yahya were the two who had deceased. Usta’s father was serving as the president of the Turkish Ski and Snowboard Teachers Association.
A video shared on social media showed the hotel up in flames.

The mayor in Bursa says the fire originated in the cafeteria of the hotel, which had been closed after it lost its permits. They plan to investigate why Usta and hotel staff workers were at the cafeteria.
Berkin skiied for 16 Sports Club. He was an alpine skiier and competed in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
This fire comes just over two months after there was a fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Kartalkaya that left 79 people dead.
