Those who paid attention to the side-stories during the Olympics may have been surprised to hear that Ryan Lochte got engaged recently. After all, Lochte advertised himself as single during the Summer Games in Rio. But it turns out he actually wasn’t, and the reason why he said he was available is a good one.
According to Lochte, he was under obligation from a contract to present himself as single. That’s what the swimmer told New York Magazine in an article.
Here’s what New York Magazine wrote about Lochte, and his fiancee, Kayla Rae Reid:

The couple have been together ten months, which may come as a surprise to those who saw Lochte on the Today show in August talking about Tindering in Rio. At the time, Lochte says, he was under contractual obligation to present himself as single, though he won’t say for what company.
Lochte got engaged to Reid last week in Malibu after proposing to her following a helicopter ride (photo here).
Reid seems like one heck of a catch for Lochte. Not only did she stick by his side during the whole controversy in Rio, but she also was understanding enough to allow him to present himself as single.
Now let’s just hope Lochte didn’t violate a non-disclosure agreement by revealing that presenting himself as single was just an act.
