Landon Donovan reportedly coming out of retirement, will rejoin Galaxy

Landon Donovan

Landon Donovan is reportedly coming out of retirement to rejoin the L.A. Galaxy for the remainder of the season.

Blake Thomsen of The Cauldron was the first to report the news, with several reporters quickly confirming that Donovan is, indeed, in talks with his former team.

There has been speculation that Donovan is returning to the Galaxy because controversial Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong recently decided to leave the club.

Donovan retired from soccer after the 2014 season, and the MLS has since named its MVP award after him. The 34-year-old has been very critical of the U.S. Men’s National Team since he had a public falling out with the organization after he was surprisingly cut from the World Cup roster. Donovan has called out USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann on multiple occasions, one example of which you can see here.

The Galaxy are currently in third place in the Western Conference. Donovan, who is widely considered to be the best player in MLS history, could give the team a nice boost if he has stayed in shape.
