Nigeria and Scotland met in an international friendly on Wednesday in England. The match, which ended 2-2, produced one of the more interesting moments you’re likely to see on a soccer pitch anytime soon, atleast until the World Cup starts.
Nigerian goalkeeper Austin Ejide left his feet to corral an incoming corner kick, but instead succeeding in throwing the ball backward into his own goal.
I mean, what?
Ejide was ruled to have been fouled on the play, so the own goal was disallowed. That doesn’t make it any less amusing to watch though.
In related own goal matters, Azubuike Egwuekwe also managed to put one into his own net, albeit in a less entertaining manner.
Prior to the match, the Scottish Football Association was contacted by the National Crime Agency regarding a possible match-fixing threat.
H/T the Score
