Did Tom Brady troll Robert Kraft with spa visit scene in Netflix show?

Tom Brady has made cameos in many movies and shows since he became an NFL superstar, but none were nearly as shocking as the latest. Never could anyone have guessed that Brady would poke fun at New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s infamous Florida day spa incident, but it happened.

Brady made a very brief appearance in Paul Rudd’s new Netflix comedy series “Living With Yourself,” and the cameo features him coming out of a seedy strip mall day spa looking refreshed. Rudd’s character is shown pulling into the parking lot and debating whether or not he wants to go inside before being stunned to see Brady.

“First time?” Brady asks Rudd with a smirk.

“Uh-huh, you?” Rudd nervously responds.

At that point, Brady shakes his head and says “sixth” before hopping into the back of a black SUV.

Football fans are stunned, to say the least. The biggest questions are when the scene was filmed and whether or not Kraft was consulted before it was included. Timothy Greenberg, the show’s creator and writer, answered one of those questions in an interview with Shannon Carlin of Refinery29 this week. Greenberg said the show’s producers approached Brady’s people with the idea last year, and the quarterback was interested but wanted to wait until after the season. In the meantime, Kraft was charged with solicitation of prostitution as part of a sting at the Orchids of Asia day spa in Jupiter, Fla. Greenberg assumed that meant the scene with Brady was a no-go.

Greenberg said the spa that Kraft visited was “almost exactly like what we were shooting” and could have been used for a reference photo. He’s still in disbelief that Brady agreed to film the scene following the charges against Kraft, which still have not played out entirely in court.

“I’m writing something else now that’s about somebody getting trapped in a world where suddenly things are going too well and this was like that,” Greenberg said of Brady following through. “Like, really, something is wrong here. This can’t be real.”

With that in mind, you have to wonder if Kraft gave Brady the OK. A lot of people have said the 78-year-old should have just owned up to what he did from the start, though the nature of the investigation seemed a lot more serious when news of it first broke. Brady and Kraft have an extremely close relationship and Kraft has said he views Brady like a son, so it would be shocking if Brady didn’t consult him. Perhaps this is Kraft’s way of finally trying to downplay his involvement.

Tom Brady supposedly did not know Netflix scene would be linked to Robert Kraft

Tom Brady

Tom Brady made a cameo in a Netflix show recently that seemed like an incredibly obvious reference to Robert Kraft’s infamous day spa legal trouble, but the New England Patriots quarterback is pleading ignorance.

The clip, which has officially gone viral, was in an episode of Paul Rudd’s new Netflix comedy series “Living With Yourself.” It features Rudd’s character pulling up to a seedy strip mall day spa and debating whether or not he wants to go inside, at which point Brady comes out looking refreshed.

Obviously, fans want to know two things — if Brady filmed the scene before or after Kraft was charged with solicitation of prostitution, and if Kraft had any say. Timothy Greenberg, the show’s creator and writer, told Shannon Carlin of Refinery29 this week that the show’s producers approached Brady’s people with the idea last year, and the quarterback was interested but wanted to wait until after the season. Kraft was charged with solicitation of prostitution as part of a sting at the Orchids of Asia day spa in Jupiter, Fla., during that waiting period, and Greenberg was stunned when Brady wanted to go through with the scene anyway.

So did Brady knowingly troll Kraft without getting permission from his boss? One source with knowledge of the situation told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that Brady was unaware the scene would be a direct or indirect reference to Kraft’s legal saga. Brady was approached to do the scene before Kraft was charged, so it wasn’t a reference to Kraft’s situation at first. However, he had to have known how it would be perceived after the fact.

A lot of people think Kraft should have just owned up to what he did from the start, though the nature of the investigation seemed a lot more serious when news of it first broke. Brady and Kraft have an extremely close relationship and Kraft has said he views Brady like a son, so it would be shocking if Brady didn’t consult him. Brady claiming he had no idea how it would be perceived is a tough explanation to believe, unless of course the writers and producers of the show misled him.

Tom Brady denies taking shot at Robert Kraft with Netflix scene, rips media

Tom Brady insists he did not intend to take a shot at New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft when he made a shocking cameo in a Netflix series that was recently released.

While speaking with reporters on Saturday, Brady claimed he was unaware that his cameo in Paul Rudd’s comedy series “Living With Yourself” would end up being a reference to Kraft’s solicitation of prostitution charge. He also took aim at the media for their “blame and shame” culture.

The scene, which has officially gone viral, features Rudd’s character pulling up to a seedy strip mall day spa and debating whether or not he wants to go inside, at which point Brady comes out looking refreshed. The establishment looks awfully similar to the one Kraft was busted at in Jupiter, Fla., but Brady says he did not know that going in.

Brady agreed to shoot the scene before Kraft’s legal trouble, and the creator and writer of the show says he was shocked the six-time Super Bowl champion still agreed to go through with it. That would seem to indicate Brady knew from the start that he would be shown coming out of a day spa, but he’s claiming that was not the case.
