Andy Murray uses Skype with his dogs while he’s away

Being a professional tennis player requires a lot of world traveling, and that can lead to limited family time. For Andy Murray, it results in K-9 withdrawal.

Murray has taken his two terriers, Rusty and Maggie May, to places like Florida, California and Paris, but the dogs can’t always travel with him. When the 2012 Olympic gold medalist doesn’t have his pets with him, he keeps in touch via Skype.

“I Skype the dogs all the time but they never respond,” Murray joked recently, via The Daily Record. “Even if I say their name, I get nothing back. If I’ve had a bad match, they’re a great comfort.”

Murray and his wife, Kim Sears, love animals. In addition to owning two terriers, Andy and Kim also fund two sniffer dogs with the World Wildlife Fund. And as some of you may remember, Murray once saved a runaway dog from traffic. You can read that fantastic story here.

We have known for quite some time now that Murray is attached to his dogs. Heck, he even let them wear his silver and gold medals after the 2012 Olympics. But is Skyping your dogs a little weird? People who don’t own pets probably think it’s insane. Those of us who do are lying if we say we wouldn’t video chat our dogs if we were away from them for three months.
