Donald Young beat Alexander Zverev in their match at the Sarasota Open this week, but he had a little bit of an adventure in the process.
Young was up a set, leading 2-1 in the second, up 30-15 in the fourth game and looking for a break. He hit a backhand into the net to make it 30-all and was upset with himself for the unforced error, so he yelled out “son of a biscuit, man! Biscuit, man! Biscuit!”
Compared to how athletes generally can get during competition, this was very tame. But he still appeared to receive a warning and was incredulous.
“Don’t give me crap for that, man,” Young said to the umpire. “I said ‘son of a biscuit.’ That’s a problem? That’s a problem now?”
No, that shouldn’t be a problem. Maybe the umpire needs to clean out his ears, because he was clearly thinking the worst.
