Novak Djokovic continues to make tennis history even at the age of 38.
Djokovic on Wednesday dropped the first set of his quarterfinal match at Wimbledon against Italian Flavio Cobolli to win the match in four sets, 6-7 (6), 6-2, 7-5, 6-4. The victory put Djokovic into the semifinals at Wimbledon for the 14th time in his career, which is more semifinals than any other player in the open era. Djokovic had been tied with Roger Federer at 13 apiece before breaking the tie. This will also be Djokovic’s 52nd major semifinal, which ties Chris Evert for the most career major semifinals in the open era among either men or women.
Djokovic blew a lead in the first set and lost it in a tiebreak before rallying to win the match. He played mostly error-free tennis and only committed 22 unforced errors.
Djokovic will face top seed Jannik Sinner in the semifinals on Friday. Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz will meet in the other semifinal that day, and the winners of the respective matches will face each other in the finals on Sunday.
Djokovic has won Wimbledon seven times during his career. He is looking to win his eighth, which would tie Roger Federer for the most by a male player. He’s already made history by reaching the semifinals of the event. Can he take it two steps further and win it all?
