Serena Williams is fresh off her fourth Wimbledon crown and 13th major overall. In addition to her dominance on the court, Serena will be featured in the August edition of Harper’s Bazaar, which is no surprise given her fashion background. While she won’t be posing nude this time, there is a lot of discussion about Serena’s body. In the article, Serena talks about being uncomfortable with her body before learning to accept that she has a different body type from most women, including her sister:
“I was 23 when I realized that I wasn’t Venus. She’s totally different,” she explains. “I’m super-curvy. I have big boobs and this massive butt. She’s tall and she’s like a model and she fits everything. I was growing up, wanting to be her, wanting to look like her, and I was always fitting in her clothes, but then one day I couldn’t.” She pauses. “But it’s fine. Now I’m obviously good, but it’s a weird thing.”
Williams explains in the article that she’s grown more serious about tennis than ever and that she’s taking new steps to stay in shape. She says she’s doing pilates and yoga and that it’s making an immediate difference in her body. It’s good to see that Serena is taking her conditioning seriously because that’s always been one of the few things that prevented her from being great year-round. After all, it’s not easy to keep that body in shape.
