Serena Williams responds to Ilie Nastase’s inappropriate baby comment
Serena Williams on Monday responded to an inappropriate remark by Ilie Nastase about her unborn baby.
Nastase, a former world No. 1 men’s tennis player, was serving as the coach of Romania’s Fed Cup team and sparked all sorts of controversies. It began on Friday during media rounds when Nastase reportedly made a comment about Williams being pregnant with fiance Alexis Ohanian’s baby. “Let’s see what color it has. Chocolate with milk?” Nastase said according to a reporter.
On top of that, Nastase asked for the hotel room number of an opposing player, then was ejected from a Saturday match after cursing and acting inappropriately (full details here).
Here was Williams’ response to Nastase, who is under investigation by the ITF:
Nastase was known for his temper as a player, and now he has gone from throwing tantrums to crossing lines. Why even comment on the skin color of the child? Does he have an issue with a black and white person having a child together? Comments like that make it seem that way. Williams had a fine response.
