Gregg Zaun Goes Rube Baker
Brewers catcher Gregg Zaun had a rough start to the Brewers game at Miller Park on Monday night. Zaun burped the ball back to the pitcher on three occasions in the first, Rube Baker-style. Pitcher Yovani Gallardo didn’t know how to react to Zaun’s errant throws because it had never happened before. Before we all go laughing at Zaun, he apparently has a good reason for the misfires. Zaun was injured in a collision at the plate a week before and had a knot in his shoulder that was limiting his arm movement. Once he got treatment on the shoulder after the half inning he was good to go.
Zaun went on to go 4-for-4 with five RBIs in the game, giving him eight on the season. The stellar performance at the plate raised his average to .218 just to let you know what kind of year he’s having. The Brewers beat the Pirates 17-3 and have now outscored Pittsburgh 53-4 through four games this season. To make matters even more surprising, Milwaukee’s blowout wins over the Pirates were sandwiched by losing three straight to the Cubs where they were outscored 25-4. If only the Brewers could face the Pirates the entire season.
