Klay Thompson obsessively checked MLB trade rumors about his brother
Klay Thompson may be one of the best shooters on the planet and nearly a 20-point per game scorer in the NBA, but in some other respects he’s just like the rest of us. Yes, during the MLB Winter Meetings, even the Golden State Warriors guard is obsessively checking trade rumors online.
Thompson joined “The Dan Patrick Show” Thursday and talked about how he spent the day Wednesday checking the ‘net for trade rumors involving his brother, Trayce, an outfielder with the Chicago White Sox.
The conversation came up when Patrick asked Klay, who hurt his ankle on Tuesday against the Pacers, what he did during his day off Wednesday.
“I didn’t do much because of my bum ankle,” Thompson said. “But I actually heard that my little brother might be in a trade, so I was on Google all day refreshing, searching (for) Trayce Thompson. Lucky enough the White Sox hung onto him.”
Though Trayce was not traded by the White Sox, some rumors had him potentially being traded to the Oakland A’s. Klay liked that because such a trade would have put them in the same city.
“I talked to him. The funny thing is the rumors were about the Oakland A’s and the White Sox for Brett Lawrie. He told me if he had to go anywhere he did not want to get traded, but the Bay would be his second choice. I told him I got a room for him, we could live together, it would be just like old times,” said Thompson.
Ultimately he’s happy his brother was not traded.
“I was hoping for it, but at the same time I don’t want [him] to leave such a good situation in Chicago.”
Trayce, 24, was great last season when he got his first taste of big league action. He batted .295 with eight doubles, three triples and five home runs in 44 games. It was quite a strong showing for the former second-round pick and probably a big reason why Chicago held onto him.
If you listened to Klay’s interview with Patrick, you probably heard his phone buzzing in the background. Maybe he was getting texts from the new girl he appears to be dating, although he left that part out of it.
