JaVale McGee failed to properly organize a free lunch at Chipotle for his fans
JaVale McGee tried to do an extremely nice gesture for some of his fans, but in typical McGee fashion, he screwed it up.
McGee, who is lauded for his talents but derided for his screwball ways, sent a tweet on Monday to spontaneously offer Chipotle to 10 of his Twitter followers. He’s deleted the tweets, but they were snagged by Black Sports Online:
RT @javalemcgee34 1st 10 people who meet me at chipotle in 5 mins get free meals! #OMMthe one in Denver on 16th!

You mean to tell me that McGee gave his fans a five-minute warning to claim a meal and he hardly got a response?
RT @javalemcgee34 IM IN LINE ORDERING ! NOBODY HERE… #WELP

There’s a shocker.
One dude did eventually show, and McGee treated him to lunch. McGee shared a photo of the two together at the restaurant, and the lucky fan later thanked McGee via Twitter.
Just met one of my favorite @denvernuggets at chipotle. Thanks for the burrito @javalemcgee34 you’re the man!

After Monday’s free lunch didn’t work out too well, McGee figured he’d give it another go on Tuesday. This time he gave fans an hour’s notice, and he had a much more positive response, buying lunch for 10 followers.
You may be wondering what inspired McGee’s nice gesture. It is believed that this was a response to the “groupie tale” gone wrong posted by Black Sports Online over the weekend. According to BSO’s story, a woman who flew out to spend time with McGee complained about his mistreatment of her, specifically noting that he didn’t buy her some Chipotle. Way to turn a negative into a positive, JaVale!
