Lamar Odom reportedly unlikely to return to Lakers because of new CBA

There are a number of theories as to why Lamar Odom had such a horrible season with the Mavericks this year, most of which revolve around his depression after being dumped by the Lakers. Odom will be 33 next season, so it’s possible he could become a useful veteran role player for some NBA team if he gets his head on straight. At this point, it doesn’t look like that team will be the Lakers.

According to the LA Times, the NBA plans to stand firm on a new collective bargaining agreement rule that prevents players from returning to their old team until a full year has passed since they left. Before the new CBA was put into place, players only had to wait a month before they could return. Since the Lakers traded Odom in December, they could not sign him again until next December, which would mean missing six weeks of the regular season. The Lakers reportedly are unlikely to go for that.

Reports regarding Odom’s basketball future have been mixed. Everyone from sports reporters to gossip columnists have weighed in on his plans. According to one report, Khloe Kardashian feels as though her marriage with Lamar will be over unless he plays with an L.A. team next season. According to another report, Odom’s top choice for next season is quite a way from L.A. Something doesn’t add up.
