Metta World Peace compares Jason Collins coming out to his decision to wear Cookie Monster attire

As reaction to Jason Collins’ decision to come out as gay continues to pour in, it is no surprise that Metta World Peace has already provided some of the most bizarre comments. Rather than taking any topic too seriously, World Peace decided to bring Sesame Street characters into the mix.

As Beto Duran shared with us on Instagram, World Peace was proudly sporting a Cookie Monster shirt when asked for his thoughts on Collins. His apparel had a lot to do with his answer.

“Whether it’s a free country or not, you should be free to act as you want to do as long as it’s not violent,” he said, via Mark Medina of the LA Daily News. “No matter what it is. I came here in a Cookie Monster shirt because I wanted to, and I was going to wear the pants. But I thought you guys were going to judge me. I was going to wear the hat too. But I thought you guys would judge me. I didn’t want Mitch [Kupchak] to judge me. So that’s why I didn’t wear the hats and the pants. But I should’ve wore it. You should be free to do and act how you want to act.”

Coming out as gay is a bit more life-altering than deciding whether or not to wear Cookie Monster pants, but World Peace’s reaction was pretty entertaining. At least his opinion was nothing like the one Mike Wallace briefly shared on Monday afternoon.

Good thing it wasn’t a “Bert and Ernie” T-shirt.

“cookie monster” is code for eating at the “Y”. Metta had to know that. His reaction is the first of the new I’m straight, not gay, not that there’s anything wrong with that. reactions. Say what you want about him it’s pretty subtle and clever.

Today we can be who you want to be straight or otherwise no matter which our prophets were judged people are gonna judge you its up the individual on how you handle the judgment which means squat in reallity props to the brother for deciding to be his true self.

Why is it such a big deal when somebody comes out?! Who cares? I’m going to come out and say I’m “straight”. Since when is it so crucially important that people everywhere have to know your sexuality??? I’m sorry I just don’t get what the big deal it is with all the gay and lesbian people feeling like everybody has to know what their gender is.

Metta’s statement was brilliant, he was saying “ain’t no big thing”. We are all just people after all.
Wear the hat and pants Metta, and we will all smile with you.

I’m just reading this and I didn’t see his live response but I don’t think there’s anything odd about the way he handled that question. He responded to it metaphorically. We should be free to be who we are without worrying about people judging us. I don’t think he’s trivializing the subject; just showing how we all deal with the same thing to some extent.

The answer was awesome. Keep them entertained. It was a stupid question to ask him. You get a off the cuff silly answer. If he had a problem with it, it couldn’t answer or he would be criticized for giving an honest answer. People will still take this answer and try to analyze it to fit what they want to believe what MWP meant.

What man can change God law? 1Timothy 1:8-10 Sums things up these unbelievers expect the true seeds of God to over look the truth. Remember what happened to Sodom& Gamorrah. He is the same God that was yesterday and still is today
