Juan Manuel Marquez unloads absurd knockdown punch on Mike Alvarado (Video)

Mike Alvarado face

Juan Manuel Marquez beat Mike Alvarado by unanimous decision on Saturday night at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., to win the WBO welterweight title. It was a pretty easy win for JMM, save for a scare in the ninth when he was knocked down. What’s strange about that knockdown is that it came the round after Marquez unloaded a ridiculous right hand that landed squarely on Alvarado’s face to nearly end the fight.

There’s one video of the knockdown up top and another below:

Alvarado was so decimated by the punch that he went stumbling all the way back to the ropes and needed to be saved by the bell at the end of the round. He even started walking to the wrong corner before the referee directed him to the proper one. Upon sitting down on his stool, Alvardo was asked if he knew where he was and said “no.”

Alvarado got it together enough to knock Marquez down with a right hand in the ninth, but that was all he did. Marquez just dominated the fight, and surely left his mark on Alvarado’s face when it was all done:

People are calling for a fifth Marquez-Manny Pacquiao fight, but I really don’t want to see it. That’s not fair to Marquez, who has no way of improving upon his last knockout victory over Pac-Man. He really has nothing to gain except a few million bucks.
