Marcos Maidana announces retirement from boxing at age 33

Argentinian brawler Marcos “El Chino” Maidana is officially calling it a career.

Maidana announced his retirement from the sport of boxing at the age of 33 in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

A former two-division world champion, Maidana is best remembered for his courageous effort in his first fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. (albeit a forgettable showing in their second bout) and for handing Adrien Broner his first professional defeat with a pummeling performance in December 2013.

Maidana hadn’t fought since that second loss to Mayweather in September 2014. He finishes his career in the ring with a record of 35 wins and five losses with 31 of those wins coming by way of knockout.

Though Lil Wayne is probably pleased about this development, Maidana will be missed in the boxing community for his heart, his aggressive fighting style, and his sheer refusal to back down from any opponent.
