Miguel Cotto welcomes fight with Canelo Alvarez, GGG

Miguel Cotto

Miguel Cotto destroyed Daniel Geale on Saturday night with a fourth-round TKO, and it didn’t take long for HBO to ask about his next opponents.

Simply put, HBO wants him to fight one of their biggest attractions, Canelo Alvarez, next. Cotto is open to that.

“I had 44 fights in my whole career. Canelo is just going to be another one, a new chapter in my career. People want the fight, I want the fight, everyone wants the fight — let’s do it,” said Cotto, who often welcomes difficult opponents.

However, Cotto wants some rest and relaxation time with his family first.

“Before (the fight), I want to spend time with my family. I want to enjoy time with them, then after that I will be back in LA training for Canelo.”

Cotto was also asked about fighting GGG Gennady Golovkin in the future.

“Why not?” he said after some hesitation. “We need to do our fights. Canelo sounds to be the next one. After that, if Gennady is available and he wants to fight, I’m available too.”

Cotto, 34, is now 40-4 (33 KOs), with two of his losses coming to Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Canelo, whose only loss was to Floyd, should be an excellent opponent.
