John Beilein says Michigan will eventually welcome back Fab Five

It’s been over 20 years since the Fab Five played at Michigan, and due to a booster schedule, things have been a bit tense since.

Current coach John Beilein says, however, that eventually the group will be welcomed back.

“We love the Fab Five, and we continue to reach out to the Fab Five and that team,” Beilein said Sunday, via Myron Medcalf of ESPN. “It wasn’t just five guys on that team, now. That was a team of champions as well. … When you have the NCAA violations in there, that’s a time that it takes some time to heal. But I’m looking forward to the times when we get everybody in that group together and all of that isn’t under our control, if you understand that.”

The Fab Five era was later tainted after an investigation that uncovered six-figure payments from a Michigan booster, and the fallout still divides some members of that team today — which Beilein is aware of.

“And if invitations are sent and they’re not accepted, then that’s OK,” Beilein said. “We just keep doing it. But one day, The Supremes, ‘One day, we’ll be together.’ We’ll get it all together at one time.”

Last we heard, things between Webber and Jalen Rose weren’t great. We’ve been given no reason to think that’s changed. That reunion will either be incomplete or a long way off.
