Alabama fans who named son ‘Krimson Tyde’ surprised by reaction
Alabama fans Summer and Steven Steele gave birth to a new baby boy on Dec. 17. They saw the birth as an opportunity to express their love for their favorite team by naming the child Krimson Tyde.
“The reason we named him Krimson is that we are big Alabama fans and it is a very unique name and we loved it,” Summer Steele told Alabama Media Group on Sunday.
As you might expect, a number of people thought naming a child after the Crimson Tide was ridiculous. The story went viral of the weekend, with sports websites and the like ripping the parents for making up a name just to pay tribute to Alabama. Summer said she has been surprised by the outrage.
“I’m very shocked, I didn’t think people would make a very big deal about it,” she said. “To people speaking negatively about us naming him Krimson, it’s not their child nor family member so if they have nothing nice to say they don’t need to say nothing at all.”
Parents have the right to name their kids whatever they want, so Steele has a point. A lot of people just feel that they’re setting their son up for a life full of name-calling and bullying. I’m one of those people.
Summer added that Krimson has been having some stomach issues and was sent home from the hospital with medicine, so we certainly wish him the best. And hey, at least the Steeles didn’t surround Krimson with firearms. Yeah, that’s been done before.
