Brandon Marshall: Cullen Jenkins disrespected my wife

Brandon Marshall

Brandon Marshall had to be restrained from going after Giants defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins during the Jets’ win on Sunday. After the game, Marshall explained that the altercation stemmed from Jenkins disrespecting his wife.

“I think there are some things that are off limits,” Marshall said, per Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.com. “I believe in trash talk. Some guys get up for that. But some things are off limits. He made a comment about … he said, ‘My girl.’ He didn’t know I was married.”

Marshall, who joked about the exchange after the game and was quick to point out that Jenkins apologized, said he won’t let anyone get away with bringing up his wife.

“There is not enough money on this Earth for somebody to disrespect my wife,” Marshall said. “I just try to take it out in between the lines. I don’t care about anything at that point.”

Marshall married his wife, Michi, in 2010. He said Jenkins must have thought he has a bunch of girlfriends.

“The cool thing is, he didn’t know I was married, and we talked it through, and he said he didn’t mean to do it,” Marshall added. “He thought maybe I had four or five girls or something. [I’m] happily married, to one woman, my wife, Michi Marshall. And I will fight to the end for her.

“So there you go, baby, he is 500 pounds and I went after him. But no, [Jenkins] is a good sport. He apologized. He didn’t know … I said, ‘Come on, Jenk, you can’t do that, man.’ He said, ‘I didn’t know you were married, I apologize.’ It’s good.”

Jenkins is actually 6-foot-2, 305 pounds, but you get the point. We all know who would probably win that fight, regardless of how angry Marshall was.

We know Marshall is a fiery guy, and he shed some light on that earlier this season. Instead of coming to blows, Marshall responded by catching 12 passes for 131 yards and forcing overtime with a touchdown catch in the fourth quarter. That’ll make more of a statement every time.
