Chiefs WR Steve Breaston disagrees with decision to play game

There has been plenty of sentiment from the media that the Kansas City Chiefs-Carolina Panthers game should be postponed in light of Saturday’s tragedy, but not many players have spoken up to say the same thing. That was until Chiefs wide receiver Steve Breaston offered his opinion Saturday night.

“There is no way we should be playing this game tomorrow …” Breaston wrote on his Instagram account.

Breaston has been a healthy scratch for a few games this year and only has 7 catches for 74 yards on the season. He’s probably done in Kansas City after the season, which may be why he felt free to share his opinion. Regardless, we agree with him.

Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher murdered his girlfriend, then drove to the stadium and committed suicide in front of team personnel, including the head coach and general manager. How can you possibly expect the team to play well given what just happened? I suppose many of the players are programmed to only think football, and that the game can be a good distraction for them, but I think the league should have postponed the game.

Upon being consulted, the team’s captains reportedly unanimously decided to play the game as scheduled.

Below is a look at Breaston’s Instagram message:
