J.J. Watt says he will retire from NFL if he is not one of the best

JJ Watt

J.J. Watt doesn’t sound like a guy who intends to play deep into his thirties just because he can.

Watt told Houston’s SportsRadio 610 that he only wants to play in the NFL as long as he can do it at a high level, not simply as long as his body will allow him to.

Watt is still only 27, but he’s already dealt with some significant wear and tear in his career. It’s reminiscent of another player who retired young. It doesn’t sound like anything is imminent, but it sure sounds like Watt will not think twice about walking away at, say, the age of 30 if he doesn’t feel he can play at a sufficiently high level anymore.
