Johnny Manziel unlikely to sign with Cowboys

Johnny Manziel injury

Johnny Manziel has seemingly made it his goal to force his way out of Cleveland, and it looks like he will achieve it in the very near future. Now, the question becomes where Manziel’s next stop will be.

The Dallas Cowboys make the most sense, right?

Not exactly. Manziel would undoubtedly love to sign with the Cowboys. He grew up in Texas, was a star at Texas A&M and loves the spotlight. Jerry Jones openly admits that he wanted to draft Manziel two years ago but was overruled by his football people. The Cowboys instead drafted offensive guard Zack Martin with the No. 16 overall pick, and he has helped solidify arguably the best offensive line in football. Manziel has been nothing but a headache in Cleveland. In other words, the decision to talk Jones out of drafting him has been completely validated.

Has anything really changed since then? As ESPN’s Todd Archer notes, the same people who took a firm stance against drafting Manziel — Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones, assistant director of player personnel Will McClay and head coach Jason Garrett — are still serving in the same roles. Manziel’s play on the field has not been all that impressive. Off the field, he’s done things like check into rehab, allegedly go to Las Vegas the night before a game, have embarrassing arguments with his girlfriend and party in public like he doesn’t have a care in the world.

And that’s just the stuff Manziel does in his personal time. Let us also not forget that he has been fined for missing injury treatment and supposedly showed up to practice last season looking all banged up.

Dallas would be the perfect spot for Manziel to spend all his free time partying and embarrass the most popular NFL team in America. Jones was talked out of inviting him to join the team once before. He can be talked out of it again.
