Are the New Orleans Saints concerned about the way Drew Brees is playing this season?
Prior to Sunday’s win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Saints are expected to draft a quarterback “high” in 2015. Rapoport added that team officials wish they had drafted a quarterback high prior to this season as they “prepare for life after Brees.”
Brees is 35 and signed a five-year, $100 million extension two years ago. While guys like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning continue to play at a high level in their late 30s, the Saints are apparently concerned that Brees won’t age as well because he is much smaller than the aforementioned future Hall of Famers.

While Brees has played poorly at times this season, he is still completing over 70% of his passes and is easily going to eclipse 4,000 yards passing. The Saints, though 5-7, still have a great chance to win the NFC South. If they get into the playoffs, Brees could easily catch fire.
Preparing for life after your franchise quarterback doesn’t mean he’s being handed his walking papers. You might remember the New England Patriots drafting Brady’s potential replacement in the second round back in May, and Brady has responded by putting together an MVP-caliber season. Brees’ job is safe for at least two or three more years.
