The NHL has a tough enough time trying to grace the pages here at LBS. If the NHL is low on the totem pole, then collegiate hockey is so far down on the agenda it’s shining NHL shoes. But when one of the members of Notre Dame’s hockey team happens to be a direct descendant of a certain notable sports movie character, then it races to the top of the list faster than Billy Packer popping his viagra following a report by Sam Ryan. David Hanson, who played the character of Jack Hanson in the movie Slap Shot, has a son who plays real hockey for Notre Dame. David used to be a real player himself, and his son must also be pretty good to have made the Frozen Four. So that’s kind cool and all, but that’s about all there is to this story. There is however, one great story that David Hanson has from his playing days:

[David Hanson], playing with the World Hockey Association’s Birmingham Bulls in the mid-1970s, was about to square off on the ice with Bobby Hull, the Golden Jet himself. Preparing to throw a punch, [David Hanson] grabbed the top of Hull’s head, then abruptly lost his grip.

Seconds later, Dave “Killer” Hanson realized he had a fistful of Hull’s toupee.

Honestly, if there’s anything the likes of Will Clark have taught us, it’s that athletes don’t need any hair to look good doing their thing. Too bad Bobby Hull had to find out the hard way. Oh, and for those who were interested, turns out Christian resembles the likes of Ned Braden more than he does his father.
