Since Olympic hurdler Lolo Jones admitted she is still a virgin a little over a week ago, the entire sports world has been trying to get her together with Tim Tebow. In the eyes of many fans and most of his Jets teammates, Tebow makes perfect sense for the 29-year-old. As you can see from the photo above that ESPNNewYork.com’s Jane McManus shared on Twitter Thursday, Nick Mangold has decided to put on the full-court press and try to play Cupid.Google+
As most of you probably know, Jets center Nick Mangold has a sister who is competing in the London Olympics this summer. Holley Mangold has qualified for the Olympics in weightlifting. At 5-foot-9 and 350 pounds, she is 43 pounds heavier than Nick and can clean and jerk a whopping 319 pounds. While Nick is certainly proud of his sister for qualifying for the Olympic Games, he has chosen to stay at Jets camp rather than traveling to London to watch her compete.
“God bless Rex (Ryan) because he did offer it to me, but I don’t think I can leave my guys in the middle of training camp,” Mangold said according to Pro Football Talk. “But we’ll figure out a way to watch, and I’m real excited and real proud for her. Somehow, some way, I’ll watch it. But I don’t know if I can do the jump over the pond in the middle of training camp.”
As a fellow competitor, I’m sure Holley fully understands. While Aaron Ross of the Jaguars has decided to miss some camp to travel overseas to watch his wife compete, everyone approaches preparation differently. If Nick feels as though he cannot adequately prepare for the season by taking a few days in the middle of camp to travel to England, you have to respect his professionalism.

Maybe we have our answer to why Tim Tebow has apparently turned down so many women eager to be with him. Olympian Lolo Jones, who has joked about the possibility of dating her fellow virgin, told Jets center Nick Mangold that she heard the quarterback has a secret girlfriend.
Things started when Mangold tried playing matchmaker between the two athletes. He tweeted the following message on Tuesday:
— Nick Mangold (@nickmangold) May 29, 2012
Jones responded and played along, but she dropped a bombshell in the process:
— Nick Mangold (@nickmangold) May 29, 2012
Will we get to the bottom of this secret girlfriend talk? Who knows. But I’m sure after Lolo’s tweet blows up the internet, she’ll be more inclined to keep future conversations about Tebow more private.
As far as secret girlfriends for Tebow go, we can probably cross this young woman off the list.Google+
Tuesday night on the “Jimmy Fallon Show,” Jimmy decided to play a trivia game called “Wax On, Wax Off” during which you get $100 right for every correct answer you give and a portion of your chest hair waxed off for every incorrect answer. The lucky contestant was Jets offensive lineman Nick Mangold. The categories included such simple topics as “Lithuian Prime Ministers” and “Advanced Particle Physics.” If Nick is some sort of closet genius, he may have had a shot at keeping some of his chest hair. Unfortunately, a random audience member was chosen to answer the questions for him. The results looked painful. If you’ve always wanted to see a 300-pound man get their nipple waxed, be sure to watch Part 2 as well.Google+
Jets fans want to see some changes this offseason. After two seasons in which New York reached consecutive AFC Championship games, the Jets struggled mightily this year. Mark Sanchez did not take significant strides in his third full year as a starter and the Jets’ offense looked stale. As a result many fans, some anonymous teammates, and at least one former player want a change at quarterback. One name that has been thrown around quite a bit is Peyton Manning, but who said he was for sale? Jets center Nick Mangold alluded to that during an interview with The Michael Kay Show on Wednesday.
“I think if anybody could get a clean bill of health, shoot, I’ll take Joe Montana if he had a clean bill of health,” Mangold said sarcastically. “Dan Marino, I think, would be another great one. I think it’s all speculation, and I think that Mark Sanchez is my guy. Hes the one I want to go into battle with, and I wouldn’t be too keen to seeing that being changed.
“(Sanchez) puts in more work and more time, cares more about the team than I think anybody else in that locker room. And for somebody to come out and say (he’s lazy), and not put their name behind it, really bothered me.”
The “anonymous” Jets sources seem to feel the same way the fans feel, and despite Rex Ryan’s continuous support of Sanchez they are hoping to force some sort of move. The only problem is star quarterbacks aren’t just sitting out there waiting to be plucked away from their current teams. Everyone likes to talk about Manning being a potential target, but Colts ownership has insisted he isn’t going anywhere. Andrew Luck should be the quarterback of the future, but it’s doubtful Indianapolis will risk trading a healthy Manning and handing the offense over to Luck next season.Google+
Dare I say that the New York Jets can do no wrong in the 2010 off-season? After reaching the AFC Championship last season out of nowhere, it can be argued that the Jets have had a stronger off-season than any other NFL team. They have acquired a Pro Bowl caliber receiver in Santonio Holmes, a troubled corner with an incredible ceiling in Antonio Cromartie, and a pass-rusher who still has plenty left in the tank to devote to a defense that really doesn’t need much help in Jason Taylor. The only move the Jets have made that doesn’t seem to make much sense is letting go of Thomas Jones and replacing him with a rapidly aging LaDainian Tomlinson — but remember they were able to snag USC running back Joe McKnight in the 4th round.
I think it’s about time for them to face an off-season obstacle and it looks like one is in the process of being built. Darrelle Revis — probably the best shut-down corner in the league and a Defensive Player of the Year snub last season — is holding out from OTAs in search of a new contract. Center Nick Mangold is reportedly considering following suit, as he has also grown frustrated with a lack of discussion about a new contract.
This was bound to happen for the Jets. As it stands right now, they have 20 players who will be owed a contract at the end of the season. It’s been baffling how they’ve been able to bring in superstar after superstar and work everything out financially. A couple of major holdouts from players like Revis and Mangold could create some serious problems for the Jets’ brass.Google+
