Roger Federer yells “Shut up!” to crowd during French Open (Video)

During his match against Juan Martin Del Potro at the French Open on Tuesday, Roger Federer became furious with a fan who mimicked an umpire by yelling “out” during a point in the second-set tiebreak. As you can see from the video above that Busted Racquet passed along, Federer hit a backhand in the corner that looked in, but was close to the lines. One fan yelled “out!” similar to the way an umpire would say it, ostensibly causing some confusion for Federer, who hit the next shot into the net. Though Federer didn’t give up after hearing the fan yell “out,” he was obviously upset because he could clearly be seen screaming, “Shut up!” to the fans.

Initially I thought Federer was frustrated he hit a bad shot while already trailing by two sets and took it out on the fans, but once it was brought to my attention that the fan yelled “out!” I can see where the anger comes from. And as we know, tennis players can be sensitive.

there;s a lot of pressure  do you get that? and the players are only human. Federer rarely if ever displays anger and then one display and he gets crucified for this? There are a lot of others to complain about more? I can’t stand it when journalists (so called) just don’t get it. Maybe you should stick to lawn bowling

Whoever wrote this article either knows nothing about tennis etiquette or is totally deaf. Federer never gets angry when people oo and ahh, which happens after any good shot at any tournament. In this case, he was particularly pissed off at the one twat who loudly yelled “OUT!” on Federer’s slice down the line. It broke his concentration, because normally when you hear “OUT!” it’s from a line judge and not from some dickwad spectator. That’s what he was so angry about. Rightfully so.

You need a hearing aid DelVecchio.  The stupid inebriated frogs yelled “Out!” on his slice down the line.  That’s disrespect not only for the player but for the game of tennis as well.  Roger responded admirably I might add.

Whoever wrote this article is an idiot, every time a player in any sport shows any kind of human emotion they get butchered for it. We know you’re the second coming Steve, we get it.

Good call. As you and several other commenters have pointed out, a fan yelled “out!” to simulate a judge’s call. The first however many times I watched the video I didn’t hear it, so I thought Federer was just pissed that the crowd was making noise. So I suppose it’s the latter — I’m totally deaf

Yes, apparently I do because I didn’t hear it. Honest mistake.

I like to see Fed show some emotion.  Proves he’s human.
