The Los Angeles are finally bringing in some help to compensate for the loss of Shohei Ohtani’s bat (albeit some over-the-hill help).
Enrique Rojas of ESPN reported Tuesday that the Angels are signing righty slugger Miguel Sano. It will be a minor-league contract for Sano with an invitation to Major League spring training, Rojas notes.
The 30-year-old Sano spent the first eight seasons of his MLB career with the Minnesota Twins. Known for his power, Sano has posted four different seasons of 25 home runs or more and also made an All-Star team in 2017. But he missed most of the 2022 season with a torn left meniscus and then went unsigned for the 2023 season as well.
Meanwhile, the Angels have done virtually nothing to address their offense this winter, choosing instead to sign free-agent pitchers such as Zach Plesac and Robert Stephenson. Sano, who has a low floor and also some personal baggage, won’t be a miracle worker for the Halos. But he should be worth the swing at his very minimal price tag.
