Brewers reportedly engaging in Sonny Gray trade talks with Yankees

Sonny Gray

The New York Yankees have made it clear that they are trying to find a new home for starting pitcher Sonny Gray this offseason, and one team that has shown significant interest in the right-hander is the Milwaukee Brewers.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported on Friday that the Brewers have been “prominent” in trade discussions surrounding Gray.

Several teams have been linked to Gray, but Morosi notes that the Cincinnati Reds are one that has seemingly bowed out of the sweepstakes. It was unusual for Yankees GM Brian Cashman to come out and admit earlier this offseason that he wants to trade Gray, and it’s possible that has resulted in some low-ball offers to New York.

Gray is a talented pitcher who has been a terrible fit with the Yankees. He went 15-16 with a 4.51 ERA over one and a half seasons with the team. That was a big step back from the 44-36 record and 3.42 ERA he posted in his tenure with the Oakland A’s.

One team that has been active in pursuing starting pitchers is also said to be interested in Gray, so we could be getting closer to the Yankees pulling the trigger.
