Brewers ‘Karen’ fired from job over video of her ‘ICE’ comment

A Milwaukee Brewers fan has reportedly been fired from her job after a video surfaced that showed her making a controversial remark.

A video that circulated on social media showed a verbal altercation between a Brewers fan — whom many are calling “Brewers Karen — and a Los Angeles Dodgers fan during Game 2 of the NLCS on Tuesday night at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisc. The Dodgers fan began taunting the Brewers supporters around him after Enrique Hernandez hit a home run in the seventh inning to give L.A. a 4-1. The Dodgers fan sarcastically asked, “Why is everybody quiet?”

The woman, who has since been identified as Shannon Kobylarczyk, could be heard telling the Dodgers fan “real men drink beer, p—y!” Kobylarczyk then tapped the man in front of her and said, “You know what, let’s call ICE.”

The Dodgers fan, who has since identified himself as Ricardo Fosado, responded that he is a U.S. citizen and a “war veteran.” Kobylarczyk then appeared to smack Fosado’s phone. You can see the video here, but be aware that it contains cursing.

Drake Bentley of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on Wednesday that Kobylarczyk was fired from her job over the video. Her former employer, Milwaukee-based staffing company Manpower Group, told the outlet that Kobylarczyk is “no longer with the organization.” Kobylarczyk was also on the board of directors at Make-A-Wish Wisconsin, but the organization said she has resigned.

Fosado told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Kobylarczyk reported him to stadium security following the exchange and he was escorted out of the ballpark. He said he had been going “back and forth” with Brewers fans all night but that the exchanges were respectful until Kobylarczyk made the “ICE” comment.

Fosado also said he feels badly for Kobylarczyk and does not think she should be judged by her mistake.

The “Brewers Karen” nickname is similar to one that was given to a Philadelphia Phillies fan last month after she was caught on camera taking a home run ball away from a father and his son.
