More Cardinals fielding errors help Braves reclaim lead in Game 1
The St. Louis Cardinals’ defense fell apart on Thursday in Game 1 of the NLDS, costing them three runs against the Atlanta Braves.
In the bottom of the first, a botched flip by Kolten Wong on a double play ball allowed the Braves to take a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals later scored in the fifth to tie the game.
Things were tied until the defense made more errors in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Atlanta had the bases loaded with two outs and Dansby Swanson was at the plate. He hit a hard ball to third that Tommy Edman was unable to handle. Then the ball skipped to Paul DeJong, who bounced the throw to second, which got away from Wong. The Braves were able to score two runs to take a 3-1 lead.

The Cardinals escaped the inning without allowing any more runs, but to see all three runs score on defensive miscues was tough.
The series is a best-of-five. The winner advances to face the winner of the Dodgers-Nationals series in the NLCS.
