Cardinals pull petty move on Clayton Kershaw before game

The St. Louis Cardinals decided to do some bear-poking before Sunday’s game.

St. Louis was hosting the finale of a three-game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Mo. Prior to the first pitch, the Cardinals pulled an extremely petty move on their video board out in center field.

The Cardinals aired the footage of Matt Adams’ famous go-ahead home run off Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw in the 2014 NLDS. The move was presumably to troll Kershaw, who was the Dodgers’ starting pitcher on Sunday (especially since the Adams homer is seen by many as the defining image of Kershaw’s notorious career-long struggles during the playoffs).

Here is the video.

An epic troll here: Minutes before the #STLCards are about to face LHP Clayton Kershaw and the #Dodgers, the video board at Busch Stadium replayed video of Matt Adams three-run HR off Kershaw in the 2014 NLDS. pic.twitter.com/mvihqcYKgT

Unfortunately for the Cardinals though, the shady move ended up backfiring on them. The three-time Cy Young winner Kershaw ultimately turned in a quality performance against them on Sunday, going five strong and allowing just one earned run on six hits and zero walks to go along with seven strikeouts.

Kershaw and the Dodgers will always have a target on their backs as the splurge-happy defending World Series champions. But it appears that the Cardinals did not learn a lesson from the last NL team that tried to troll Kershaw on their home video board.
