Cody Bellinger thanks Yasiel Puig for ‘idiot’ move that scored run

Cody Bellinger had a funny comment about a baserunning gaffe by Yasiel Puig that played out in the Dodgers’ favor on Sunday night.
The Dodgers and Giants were scoreless in their game in the bottom of the fourth in Los Angeles. Corey Seager was on second and Puig on first when Bellinger flied out to left for the second out of the inning. Seager tagged up and advanced to third, but Puig got caught trying to tag up to second and ended up in a rundown. Things worked out as Seager scored from third while Puig was in a pickle.

That made the score 1-0 and the Dodgers went on to win 9-0.
So what did Bellinger say about the play after the game? He joked about thanking Puig for being an idiot.
“Thanks for being an idiot,” Cody Bellinger told Yasiel Puig after his fourth-inning baserunning gaffe produced the Dodgers’ first run. “That was a good time to be an idiot.”

Puig said after the game that the play wasn’t planned — obviously — but he seemed to dismiss just how lucky he got. Puig has been known for his odd behavior in games, so this is nothing new.
