Managers have been known to rip their teams and fans. Players have been known to do the same. Heck, sometimes even an owner like Fred Wilpon gets frustrated and decides to take it out on his own players. But when a first base coach feels the need to run his mouth about an organization, something must be seriously wrong.
Its no secret that the L.A. Dodgers are an organization in peril. Bud Selig and the MLB have already had to take control of the team from the McCourts and the Dodgers are desperate to sell tickets. First base coach Davey Lopes, who used to coach with the Phillies, shed some light on the situation in L.A. on Monday in an interview with Philly.com.
“I have nothing but great memories of this ballpark, and the fans, I consider the best in baseball,” Lopes said when asked about coaching in Philly, via Hardball Talk.”The intensity level coming into the ball park every day, I miss that tremendously. As you’ll see when you go to LA with the empty seats. They’re something you’re not used to seeing in L.A. Neither am I …”
There are shots at the fans and then there are shots at the fans from a third base coach. At 28-33, it’s going to be a long rest of the season for the Dodgers and their fans.
