David Ortiz to be transferred to Boston once fully stabilized
David Ortiz appears to be doing as well as you could expect after being shot in the abdomen on Sunday night, and he should be leaving the Dominican Republic at some point in the near future.
Leo Lopez, Ortiz’s assistant and press representative, told ESPN’s Marly Rivera on Monday that Ortiz remains in stable condition and the plan is for him to be transferred to Boston for further treatment once it is deemed safe.
I just spoke on the phone with David Ortiz’s assistant and press rep, Leo López, and he said that once Ortiz is fully stabilized they expect he’ll be transferred to Boston for further treatment. We’re waiting for further updates on his medical condition this morning.

The latest medical information we received was that Ortiz is in stable condition and being monitored closely in intensive care after undergoing surgery until 3:30am this morning. https://t.co/3DVPcqFDdm

Ortiz, of course, spent the bulk of his career with the Red Sox, and Boston is home to some of the best doctors and hospitals in the world. The Red Sox said early Monday morning that they have made all of their resources available to Ortiz and will help him in any way they can.
A video showed a man come up behind Ortiz and shoot him when Big Papi was hanging out at a bar in his hometown of Santo Domingo. The bullet went into Ortiz’s back and exited through his stomach, and he had to undergo several hours of surgery after some organs were damaged. It sounds like he is fortunate to be alive.
The man who allegedly shot Ortiz was beaten by several people who were at the bar at the time the incident occurred. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and detained.
