David Price gets good news after being hit with line drive
Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price was forced to leave Wednesday night’s game against the Miami Marlins after the third inning when he was drilled with a line drive, but it sounds as though he avoided a major injury.
Marlins outfielder Austin Dean ripped a line drive in the direction of Price’s head, and the left-hander quickly threw his arms up to defend himself. The ball caught him in the left wrist, but it could have been much worse:

Price was able to scramble to first to cover the bag for the final out of the inning, but his night was over after that. The Red Sox announced following the game that X-rays on his wrist were negative.

Price didn’t seem too concerned, but Red Sox manager Alex Cora left open the possibility that he will miss he next start.
“I think [it] will be all right,” Price said. “We’ll just take it day by day and see where it’s at tomorrow.”
While he allowed three runs in three innings on Wednesday, Price has been pitching well lately. He’s almost certainly secured a spot in Boston’s postseason rotation, even if his track record in the playoffs is terrible. The wrist injury will be worth monitoring going forward, but we can probably guess how Price will react if reporters ask him about it.
