Demoted Twins player suffers ridiculous injury while in minors

Jose Miranda is really having a 2025 season to forget about.

The veteran infielder Miranda, who was demoted by the Minnesota Twins over the weekend, suffered an absurd injury this week while with Triple-A St. Paul. Matthew Leach of MLB.com reports that Miranda strained his left hand while [checks notes] attempting to handle a case of bottled water.

A club official stated that Miranda was handling the case of water when it began to fall. Miranda then attempted to corral it and keep it from falling to the ground, injuring his hand while doing so.

The 26-year-old Miranda is at least a right-handed thrower and batter. But the mishap continues on what has been a comically bad 2025 campaign for Miranda thus far.

The only reason that Miranda was in the minor leagues to begin with was due to his own lapses this season. Miranda notably committed a horrible base-running error during a Minnesota loss on Saturday to the Detroit Tigers (video here) and was sent down to the minors just hours later. It also certainly did not help that Miranda was batting a hapless .167 over his first 12 games for the Twins in 2025.

Miranda actually had a respectable year in 2024 for Minnesota, hitting .284 with nine homers and 49 RBIs in 121 total games and tying an impressive MLB record in the process. But Miranda’s downward slide is now continuing in the minor leagues as he has become the latest baseball player to suffer a water-related injury this season.
