The Arizona Diamondbacks may be about to land a veteran who would bring ample playoff experience to their roster.

Multiple reports Thursday indicated that the Diamondbacks are interested in free agent outfielder Joc Pederson. According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, Pederson and the Diamondbacks are “very close” to a deal. Buster Olney of ESPN suggested the Diamondbacks’ interest in Pederson is due to his potential as a designated hitter.

Pederson spent the 2023 season with the San Francisco Giants, where he hit .235 with 15 home runs in 121 games. He was an All-Star in 2022 and has won World Series titles with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020 and the Atlanta Braves in 2021. His primary value is as a left-handed power bat against right-handed pitching.

Pederson is also known for his quirks and his fun personality, which can make him beneficial for a clubhouse. That may fit nicely with an Arizona team that is fresh off a surprise World Series appearance and looking to take the next step.
