If the San Diego Padres continue to sell off their major league talent as we approach the Aug. 1 trade deadline, starting pitcher Andrew Cashner could be the next to go. The right-hander is not concerned about it, however, because he doesn’t expect the team to keep him in the loop anyway.
After he threw 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday night, Cashner was asked if he has paid attention to trade rumors. He basically said he shouldn’t bother because Drew Pomeranz, a fellow starter who was recently traded to the Boston Red Sox, found out he was on the move by watching TV.
Cashner: "What good is worrying about it going to do? Y'all know more than me. Pomeranz found out on the TVs."

As we know, this has become increasingly common. Speed is all that matters in the social media era, and sometimes teams have to remain silent about trade negotiations until the very last second in order for things to work out. The end result is guys learning in pretty cold-hearted ways (here’s another) that they are being shipped out of town.
Cashner is 4-7 on the season with a 4.79 ERA. He’s unlikely to attract any stud prospects, but the 41-55 Padres are in rebuilding mode. He could very well be on the move.
