James Paxton was throwing 100 mph at end of no-hitter
James Paxton has been on fire for the Seattle Mariners this season, and he took it to a new level on Tuesday night.
Paxton threw a no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays, striking out seven and walking three in a 5-0 win. The no-hitter marks the sixth in franchise history for Seattle. The best part is that Paxton became the first Canadian MLB pitcher to throw a no-hitter in Canada.
What’s incredibly impressive about the feat is that despite throwing 99 pitches in the outing, Paxton was still humming late in his start. In fact, he threw 100 mph against the last batter he faced — Josh Donaldson, who hit a hard grounder to third.

“I was just throwing as hard as I could,” Paxton said of his approach in the final inning.

Paxton has not given up a run in consecutive outings. Last time out, he struck out 16 in seven scoreless against the A’s. His fireballing ways certainly helped him achieve the no-hitter, but he also owes some thanks to Kyle Seager, who made this spectacular save:

Maybe it was the touch of the eagle that brought him his good luck.
