Jeff Samardzija clearly does not think that he will be landing with the New York Yankees any time soon.
Addressing reporters on Wednesday, the San Francisco Giants righty laughed off recent trade rumors linking him to the Yankees in the wake of the news that Luis Severino needs Tommy John surgery.
“Oh yeah. Just give me No. 2 and don’t make me cut my hair,” Samardzija joked in a nod to the Yankees’ notorious clean-cut policy, per Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic.
Derek Jeter references aside too, a clean-shaven Samardzija would definitely be a bizarre sight, as the 35-year-old has been known throughout his MLB career for his long locks and scraggly facial hair.
In any case, Samardzija is entering the final year of his contract with the Giants this season, so if his career continues beyond that, there may be one free agent destination that we can cross off the list. After all, the former All-Star would probably be more willing to dump his girlfriend than cut his hair.
