Josh Reddick offers potential hint for Gerrit Cole’s free agency
On the heels of a dominant ALDS, Gerrit Cole is slated to pitch Game 3 of the ALCS for the Houston Astros. While he has plenty of work yet to do, it’s growing impossible to ignore that Cole is going to be a free agent after the season ends.
The star right-hander isn’t thinking about that yet, but one of his teammates seems to have an indication of where he might land. Outfielder Josh Reddick suggested that Cole may ultimately play somewhere out west.
Josh Reddick doesn’t know who will be able to afford Gerrit Cole this winter, but knows Cole would love to go out West. ‘I just hope it’s out of our division,’ Reddick says.

Cole is from southern California and attended UCLA, so it may be that he’s eager to get back closer to home. He’ll likely cost a lot of money, though, and the Astros don’t seem bullish on their chances of retaining him. The question will become who can, and whether they fit as one of Cole’s preferred destinations.
